Columbus Gifted Academy parents and the PTO have partnered with a CGA neighbor on a city garden grant and we were awarded $1,655.
The garden installation is scheduled for Sunday, April 24, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Please come at start time and stay as long as you can. We’ll post the plan and sign-ups closer to the date.
Even better, we are starting up the CGA Wellness Committee. The Wellness committee will meet on the first Wednesday of each month during the school year at 7:45 AM at Local Matters (633 Parsons Ave, just a few blocks from the school). Kids are welcome if you generally drop them off in the morning.
Ellen McAuliffe and Michelle Moskowitz Brown are leading the Wellness Committee and coordinating its activities with the garden grant. They propose the concept of “Eat, Play, Love” for the Wellness Committee: good food, physical activity and nurturing.
Current ideas include the raised bed garden and a garden club with curriculum (which will start in the fall), a Girls on the Run program (with a 3-5 grade chapter and 6-8 grade group if a coach is available), other sports activities, and potentially meditation and yoga. These activities could be great coordinated with a latchkey program. The plan is to incorporate physical activities into existing events rather than develop a single fitness event.
